FIRST LEGO League (FLL) inspires young students from around the world (aged 9 to 14) to work together and use their creativity to engage in real-world problem solving. Each year in September, FLL teams internationally accept the Challenge, which engages them in hands-on robotics design and authentic scientific research. After 8 intense weeks, the FLL season culminates at high-energy, sports-like tournaments. FLL is a worldwide program for children created in a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Company. The Challenge is the annual game revealed to FLL teams each September during the on-line kick off. Teams must formulate a strategy to accomplish various Challenge missions and accumulate points. In addition, the Challenge theme and the related Research Assignment require teams to investigate current issues facing our modern world. This combined process brings the reality of science and technology to children on a more intimate, hands-on level.

This year's challenge:

The challenge is comprised of two parts: The Robot Game and the Research Assignment. The goal of the robot game is to design and develop a robot to carry out missions on the playing field. Specific rules and point values are associated with each mission. The goal of the research assignment is to more fully understand the significance of the real work that is being conducted by scientists around the world. More about this year's challenge->>
